Finally, something that's not (quite) anime! :O

This was done as part of a card for a friend's 21st. The story goes that I absolutely, completely SUCK at buying birthday presents (I can never figure out what to get people, and usually do IOUs which means I haven't gotten people presents for the past five or six years), so I ended up getting her a gift voucher (how exciting). However, I decided to compensate by making her a kick-arse card- she likes music, so the original card was in the form of one of those cardboard CD cases that sort of unfolds; this is the front cover. Unfortunately I ended up rushing the project. so the inside design didn't turn out as nice as I'd initially envisaged... which is why you don't get to see it here. :P

Design-wise, anyone familiar with the Japanese group ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION can probably tell this was heavily, heavily influenced by the beautiful works of Nakamura Yuusuke (who does the CD cover illustrations). It was a challenge to work with a limited colour palette and "without lines" (I say this because I cheated and did proper lineart, but coloured the lines in to match the colour fill); however I feel satisfied in having tried a different direction to my usual work.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GERI!!

Cool! I like the use of strong, flat colours - and it looks really good against the navy blue!! Lol, very vis com! Looks great!

*laugh* Being a cultural philistine, I sadly have no idea what you mean by the old pop posters (it seems I only know how to rip off others' styles and ideas =_=;; ), but thank you!

not exactly what was on my mind, but you can sorta (maybe) catch the drift. (... perhap's it's because it's the 80's XD) I too have a hard time trying to explain it, but if you've been lookin in clothes stores lately (Like Jayjays, you being an aussie should have them :3) the sorta rock/pop/punk prints that land themselves on the t-shirts there. :3

I love this style~ (I'm a big fan of Asian Kung-Fu Generation too <3)

You did a really good job on it, I hope your friend loved it! ^_^

Aw, thanks for that! Actually, I'm *really* not much of a clothes person <- understatement of the year (walking into stores always makes me feel distinctly uncomfortable), but I think I maybe-sort-of catch the drift. :D
